Local 483: The Friend of Wage Earners in Idaho
This page invites you who are unfamiliar with unions to learn what the benefits are for wage-earners who become Teamster members through Local 483. We also invite you to check out the resources and wealth of information found in the International Brotherhood of Teamsters' website.

Why Would Wage Earners Want to Join a Union?
In Idaho, wage earners have little protection under the law and many employers compensate their employees as little as possible. The Idaho Teamsters, first established in 1937, provide their members with improved benefits, working conditions, and we organize new work contracts on members' behalf. Working together, we are building better lives for ourselves. To learn more about the benefits of joining our union, please contact our office.

What Do The Navigational Links Mean?
Although the meaning of several of the navigational links of this website are self-explanatory, others are readily understood only by those familiar with our union. The following table briefly summarizes what those other navigational links mean.

Name of Navigational Link Explanation of the Link
Contract Updates Updates are given on contracts being negotiated between a particular company and their union member employees.
E-Board Officers The Executive Officers of Local 483
Meetings Meetings for our union members
Organizing

Refers to two types of organizing:

Internal Organizing--members talking to fellow employees about the benefits of joining our union.

New Contracts--when the majority of employees in a company has decided to join our union, then leaders of Local 483 negotiate with that company to come up with a contract that is satisfactory to both the company leaders and union members.

Shop Stewards Shops are the companies that have employees who are Teamster members. Stewards are the union members who represent their fellow members within a particular company.
